Check the Internet for local persian rescue groups and you'll be amazed at the number of purebred animals available for much lower fees. For example, prices in our area run $50-$150 on cats and kittens that have been tested for feline leukemia and FIV, received appropriate vaccinations including rabies, been checked for ear mites and worms/parasites--and adoption fees include spay or neuter. Plus, rescue groups offer fantastic support and resources for nutrition, training, behavior questions, etc. Rescues will also give you a realistic idea of annual costs associated with responsible pet ownership. (Maybe suggest low cost grooming options for your persian.) Beware of "free" kittens or cats, especially ones that have no history of health care.
