Can cats prefer a certain gender of cat?

cats
Nats asked:

One of my cats does not seem to accept male cats at all (all my cats are fixed before maturity sets in). She’s the oldest. She’s fine with females of any age, but males are not tolerated. How does that work or am I imagining things?

yes- do you prefer girl or boys- its all the same in the wildlife kingdom- some male cats like girls- and some like boys
Watch animal planet- you’ll sometimes see male lions with other male lions with a pride or you’ll see them by themselves with many other female lions- its ll the same
Also it depends if a female cat is really mean- she wont like males because she believes she is the domoninate male.
So try getting a young male kittie, with his testises,… that loves other cats and loves attention, And give them plenty of time. She’ll learn she doesn’t have the smell of testostiron and she’ll give him the title of dominate male.
Also if she was spayed at a young age, she might not know if she is a girl- she might think she is a boy- so give them time. After 2 yrs, she’ll realize he is a male and wont be as aggrastive, then neutuar him. But still try with a young intact male- which means- he’s not neutred-. And give them time. A cat needs alot more time to adjust then a dog. They are very sensitve to changes and new friends
Let me know how it goes

Sometimes cats get used to roles. I have an older female (by five years), who got upset when I introduced another cat who was male, when she had been used to being the Queen, and when I added the male, he was too young to be fixed, so perhaps your cat is just reacting to him as male and trying to keep her dominance?
