Cat urinating next to the litter box only after it has been scooped?
I have a 1 1/2 year old spayed female cat who we have had since she was about 8 weeks old. Recently she has been urinating next to her litter box right after I scoop it. She only does it about 3 times after I scoop it, then she will use the box again. Why is she doing this?

Its possible that when you scoop the box she doesn’t believe it smells enough like her anymore. Try when you’re cleaning it to not remove everything. I know that sounds weird but it may get her to recognize the box easier as her own. lizzy8813

Cats are extremely picky about when they use their liter box. They won’t use the liter box if it isn’t up to their standards. Kagome

Cats can be very canny and contrary. How dare you remove the familiar smelliness from her home, that’s the way she likes it! I like cats but on the whole I prefer dogs, they can be more companionable. celtish

I would clean the litter box completely because she might not think its clean enough. that or you just recently changed litter that she’s used to and doesnt like it. angie
