Take a look at cats in a shelter. They house adult cats and kittens. You can look around and ask to take any cat or kitten out of it's cage to see if you like it. The kennel help will be more than happy to help you pick out the right cat or kitten that you might like. Thumbs ^ Up

If you want less of a mess, then you should get an older cat.
All you need to take care of cats is...
1. litter box w/ litter included
2. cat food
3. TLC deegirl95

If you are willing to pay for most of the expenses, clean up the messes/liter box, and feed it, then you are ready for a cat. This would make it pointless to foster a cat. I would also recommend against this because if you decide to give it back up, it can be harder emotionally. There are many upsides to getting a cat versus a kitten and vice versa. If you get a cat, it will not be quite as traumatized about the new house. Personally, I prefer getting a kitten. The advantage of it is that they are more playful which at your age would make having a pet seem more worth the cost of time and money. They are also more loving. If you and your mom do decide to get a cat, I would suggest getting a book on cats (or kittens, if getting a kitten) before actually deciding on which bundle of joy to get. It turns out that by observing the cats that are available for a little bit of time before buying, you can find out what they will act like around the house and you. Just choosing a cat based on looks is not good because if you want a playful one, you could end up with a shy and lazy one or vice versa. I hope this helps. Good Luck on Being a New Cat Parent! daphfried10

your in middle school, lol iv just left high school but iv had cats since i was in first school.

id get a kitten, they settle in better than cats do and will grow up around you so will trust oyu more.

they are really cute and dont take as much looking after as dogs do!

all they want is food, some fuss and a comfy sofa to sleep on and they do the rest themselves.

it is important to let your cat go out when it is older (about 4 months old) because she needs the air and exersize. she will also catch any creatures that may be lurking round your house or garden.

cats are really cool and will love you if you love them back.

they can be very affectionate (boys mor ethan girls) but with boys, if you dont get them neutered, they will run off looking for girly cats to have babys with (typical bloke!).

So get whatever catty you bond with and they will love you too.

good lick and have fun! ♥♥ born eventer♥ ♥

i think that would be a great idea to do to see if you are ready or need to wait a while. if you do get one and need help call up a friend that has a cat. they would probly know the answers to all you questions. corgi ♥r

Why not volunteer at a local shelter and learn what it takes to care for cats and kittens? You'll get loads of experience in a very short time! If you concern is financial, try waiting and saving up your money.

Good LucK! Spike & Co.

Kitten's you can teach a lot more from the start, but they are like babies and need to be watched closely until they are older and wiser ( when you aren't home I would leave them in one room where they are safe and can't get stuck in a hole behind the fridge of something :o))... older cats are less work, but they may be more problem in the beginning until they are use to your home and the change of environment.

Kitten's will need all their shots and if you are going to have them fixed etc. It's cheaper to do it when they are young.

Cat's are not overly expensive to take care of. But like any pet, if they get sick it can cost a fortune.

I have 2 cats, they are like my babies, one has been sick and cost me a lot of money, the other has been really great and only cost me for the checkups every 2 years and food....

Good luck! LISA T

u can try a foster cat...but i won't be the same if u adopt one to start with. that way you can share all of those great first moments with it! as long as it knows where it's litter box, food, and water is, it should be ok. hydeluvr76
