    not all do we have a 12 y/o female that weights 12 lbs and a 2 y/o female that weighs the same….both are fixed. One hunts, one sleeps all day kimba

    it’s ok it happened to my cat also after he was fixed if your concerned.all cats get big i’m not all to sure aShLeY

    if you did it when your cat was a kitten then yes its going to get bigger. but if its getting fat it might just be the type of cat Joanne L

    I believe because there metobolisim slows down.
    Like a woman in,after Menopause.
    I think cats look pretty thou when they are all filled out
    with some weight on them. Not over weight thou-not good
    for there health.

    I’m assuming you mean fatter by “big”. This is because the decrease of hormones sort of messes up the way their systems are originally supposed to work. I can’t get technical, I really don’t know, but it is just like the reason for them to stop spraying or becoming more docile.

    One relation I can think of is when women (human) get menopause, they decrease in estrogen, and commonly gain weight because the metbolism slows. Mosquito Algebra Fountain Thrash

    Why do people who own neutered cats not (gradually) reduce the portions they feed their cats when the cats start getting overweight? When you find the answer to that question, you will have the answer to yours as well.

    The portions required by cats to stay at a healthy weight are so individual that you cannot rely solely on the feeding instructions on the package of food. I have found that my cats need about half what is given in the directions on their food. If you are feeding the amounts suggested, and your cat is still gaining weight, talk to your veterinarian about how to safely reduce the portions to help your cat reach his or her ideal weight. Beware “weight loss” cat foods. They tend to have a lot of fiber and carbs, but what your cat really needs is meat. Start reading the labels on the food you buy. Look for foods that have real, specific meats listed in the first three ingredients. Try to avoid fillers like wheat or corn. Windi Lea

    I have 5 cats (3 twelve year olds, 1 three year old, and 1 two year old). None of them got big after being fixed. They eat good quality meat-based food (no “junk” food) and have access to a large screened lanai (patio) with cat furniture for climbing and lounging (entertainment and exercise). Cats do not get big after being fixed unless they are fed dry junk food (such as the brands found in grocery stores) or are inactive and overeating due to boredom. Anne K

    If you mean “big” as in overweight this has nothing to do with being fixed. Cats get overweight from owners feeding them cheap dry food that has corn as the main ingredient. And from owners that leave food out all day long for them to eat. Feed your cat a QUALITY diet of both meat-based dry food and wet and only twice a day.

    Not all cats become fat after they’ve been fixed. I have a darling cat named Garfield that has been fixed and he isn’t fat in the least. katkrazy

    that happened to my cat and my vet said that its because there are no more hormones in his system Jennie R
