		<description>Good suggestion.  Another one is to contact the HSUS, get a bunch of people to contact the HSUS if conditions are horrific, abusive, dirty, lack of care or whatever.  They will do an inspection and the shelter will have to abide by their findings.  It takes a little time, but our local shelter just got inspected and we're about to receive a final report soon.</description>

If you are concerned about a particular shelter, you can register a complaint with your local humane society, and they will do an unannounced inspection.</description>
