It wont have the effect on them that it does some cats, not all cats even react to catnip. The chemical nepetalactone is what they respond to . Catnip is a member of the mint family Nepeta cataria. It is non toxic so if your dogs do roll in it (some will because they like rolling in tall grass and plants) or eat it it is harmless to them.

Catnip transplanted outside is usually found and destroyed by neighborhood cats, but if its grown from seed it is usually left alone. Its the moveing around and breaking of leaves releasing oils that attracts them to newly planted plants. It is a perennial herb and will come back every year and in some places can become invasive as any mint can.

If they are anything like my dogs, they will just run over it and kill it. Other than getting dirt in their nails, the cat nip should have absolutely no effect on them! :)

It should have no effect on them.

Its more likely that the cats that are going to be in your garden are going to drive the dogs wild.
