I don't think it is. In the wild, how they naturally would make a living would be to hunt prey and eat it, so their bodies can't really survive on vegetarianism. Sorry. They are made to eat meat. In the wild, they would be like leopards or lions or cheetahs or something, and I don't think you'll find many of those who aren't carnivores. If without meat, the kitties will not be able to function properly from protein deficiency and other vitamins, and it will make your cat suffer and have complications like blindness. It would be like you, never getting protein and your body severely failing. Being an animal rights advocate, I am sure you would understand that this is cruel and mean to the animals. I am a vegetarian too, but I must do what is best for my dog, so we are switching him to an entirely raw meat diet (extremely healthy). I won't enjoy it very much, but it is what is best for the animals. Natural diets are ALWAYS best for ANYTHING living.

If you are for animal rights, hopefully you will understand this necessity as it as well has to do with animal rights. Lol. JOMS Girl

The only way you can switch your cat into a vegan or vegetarian is if you switch the cat into a rabbit... exsft

No, it is not okay to feed a cat a diet with no meat. Cats need meat. Without it, they can get sick and even die. There's lots of info on the net about this, and you can ask your vet. Karen L

You can not do that and have a healthy cat. Cats need a high protein diet and their diet should be a cat food that list meat as the first ingredient. Classy Granny

How many times are you going to ask this question?
A cat has to eat meat to survive. That poor cat of yours should taken away from you. Do you want your cat to die? Because he will. Cats kinda are carnivores, actually obligate carnivores. And what do carnivores eat? Did you get the answer yet? That's right: MEAT. And you want to talk about you being an animal rights advocate. What do you mean you want to switch your cat to vegan or vegetarian? You are wrong taking away the only food that animals like cats and dogs need to eat for their dietary requirement and survival. Irrational. CATS depends solely on the nutrients found in animal flesh for their survival. What do you think lions, tigers, cheetahs, etc. eat in the wild-butterflies, soybeans, and green melons?! Well guess what-they DON"T. That is animal abuse/cruelty. And I don't care if you knew about cats being carnivores or not. If you told your veterinarian that...omg. Cats can't make the decision to become vegans or vegetarians, ok? And you can't make them either!!!!! You only have the choice to become a vegan or vegetarian. I don't know planet you're from, but here on planet Earth, it's not uncommon for an animal to eat the flesh of an another animal. It's a natural process. And humans do, should, and can eat meat. We've evolved to eat meat. We're hunter-gatherers. I recommend that you take a course in biology 101 at your local community college.

And a cat's physiology has evolved to efficiently process meat, and they have difficulty digesting plant matter. Their kidneys are so efficient that cats can survive on a diet consisting only of meat. Try and feed that poor, poor, cat of yours plant matter (vegetable matter) because the only thing it does to them is help them throw up hairballs. They eat grass because it help them with that, so that means the material is not digested. They throw it back up! How nutritious is that? John

No, cats are carnivores not omnivores so they wouldn't do well on a plant based diet. Nini ^^

Animal rights? Isn't forcing your cat to eat veggie cat food just because YOU want it to, taking away it's rights? Cats are meant to eat meat and would choose so if given the opportunity. Therefore, if you are still against feeding your cat meat, you may want to consider finding your cat a new home where it can be happy and healthy but at the same time, you not go against your beliefs. Kimmy
