How can you get 6 month old kittens on a sleep schedule?

I understand cats are nocturnal, but our kittens decide they want to play hockey and kitten-derby at 11 at night and 4 in the morning but they sleep all day. Is there any way we can switch that around by changing feeding times or something? We try playing with them right before bed but that just winds them up more. Any thoughts?

You can’t. They’re nocturnal. They’ll grow out of it, and until then you just have to deal with it.

well, cats are noctornal animals. i had a similar debacle with my rowdy kitten when i bought him home and before he was neutered. what i had to do was actually just shut him out of my bedroom when my boyfriend and I were trying to sleep. maybe this will help? it should be fine to leave them out of the room, just as long as their food and water and litter isn’t in the closed room. hope this helps!

You should bring her to bead and show her that its time to go to bed……….or you should get a cage for her and put her in at night with only a minimum amount of food and no toys then your kittens will have nothing to do so he/she goes to bed.

When they get older you can give em a little food before YOU go to bed — that will usually make em sleepy.

But cats ARE nocturnal (actually — crepuscular — they are active at sunset and just before dawn) animals. Mine have adopted a night-time sleep schedule but they also sleep during the day so sometimes they get a little antsy at night– come to think of it, sometimes, so do I !!!

Do NOT put them in a cage — think about this — if there is a fire or a flood or a disaster and you have to leave at once– what’s going to happen to the cat? In the emergency, it might be left behind by mistake!!!

You can’t MAKE a cat do anything a cat doesn’t want to do. That’s part of their charm. :)

It gets better as they get older. Our little kitty kept us awake every night when she was a baby. Now that she is older, it IS MUCH better. She sleeps on the bed between my husband and me….and it is SO cozy….SHE loves IT and WE love it!

I don’t think you can. Cats want to take their own decisions.

Good luck with that. Our fifteen month old cat always wakes us up between 4 and 5 in the morning, and has since we got him.
