Have you considered going to your local animal shelter to get a cat? I'm sure you could find a nice cat there who is friendly and has already been medically checked out, vaccinated, spayed, etc. I think you would find that to be a better route than trying to tame a feral stray.

One cat will turn into seven. Believe me, i put food out to feed this cat that looks like Uncle Fester (I felt sorry because he's ugly) and now everyday there is a group of cats at my front door whenever I open it and they MEOWWWW.
My advice, don't feed strays. (I'm trying to be nice and not mean so you know) :)

Just keep putting out food. You can not help it if other animals eat it. Unless the stray cat can be less afraid to come to you etc.

Keep food out during the day and not the night...night time is when all kinds critters come out to eat your cat food.

If you have a feeding schedule- the stray will get the idea but don't worry cats tend to go back to the same house when they know they will get fed.

If you really want a cat, go to the shelter and get one. If you want an outside cat, just pretend the stray is yours.
