How do I get my cat to stop urinating everywhere?

Zach C asked:

My cat is almost two years old, and she keeps urinating on my mom’s rug and in my bedroom. She usually goes in her litterbox but she has been going more and more on the rugs recently. My mom says that if she does it again she will throw the cat outside! The cat has no front claws so she can’t defend herself. I tried reasoning with my mom but she said she doesn’t care! How can I get the cat to stop?

STEAM CLEAN THE CARPET WHERE SHE IS URINATING. SHE IS CONTINUING TO URINATE THERE BECAUSE SHE SMELLS HER PREVIOUS URINE.

Declawing tends to cause problems using the litter box and may be part of the problem. Since it makes it harder or more painful to use the litter box, they do it outside the box. So please do not get rid of the cat for this reason since the problem was partially created.

I agree with the other answers that pertained to seeing if the cat has been spayed, since spaying will help reduce marking behavior, and thoroughly cleaning the rug/floor to remove her scent.

I had two different cats exhibit that same behavior and it turned out they had a urinary tract infection. That is something that needs immediate attention from a vet because their bladders get blocked and it is very painful to them to try to urinate. They associate the pain with the litter box so that is why they stop using it.

litter box could be dirty if not might be a sign of a urine track infection.. should get urine to bring to the vet so they can look at it and do a dip stick.. just put sum gravel like for a fish tank but make sure u clean the litter box and gravel real good before u do it..

Take you cat to the vet…she may have a bladder or urinary tract infection that is causing her to do this.
