You're lucky that the chinese restaurant hasn't stolen your cat for their food. WV.Hillbilly

wow, thats funny. but seriously, the manager of the place is responsible for keeping the doors closed to the kitchen. not just for cats, but for rodents. leaving the doors open is how most restaurants get rat and mice problems, now they have a kitty problem. so technically, its not your cats fault! lol. nut buster!!!!

I think if a cat starts stealing its going to be hard to break the habit, especially for alley cats or independent cats like yours. It sounds like your cat travels a lot (1/4 mile wow!). I doubt a spray bottle works, if it does, it is going to require a lot of effort from your side but you should try.
Its either you are not feeding your cat enough or it just enjoys stealing scraps. Otherwise, why would the manager get upset if he gives the food away for your pet to eat, the cat belongs to you too after all. fasterthansatan515

you might want to keep your cat inside for a while.
I use to have one who went around begging like a homeless cat... I finally put a coller on her with a note "do not feed this cat... she has a home!!!"
good luck eyJude
