Kudos to you for adopting! More people should have hearts and save little feline lives. :-)

I adopted a kitty last year and she was the same way....very timid and loved to hide. She only really came out to eat, drink and use the restroom - and she didn't let me see her do any of these activities. I left her alone. After a couple days, she came out on her own and was more confident to roam around the house to explore. She just needed time and I think that's all your kitties need.
Good luck!real_one

You need to teach them to come when called. When you feed the shake a plastic container with a little food in it and call them . I used " come on supper ". The rattling gets their attention and can be heard when they hide. They may hide but will come out to eat. Don't just put the food down and leave make it a time to talk to them. When they are done pick the food up and don't put it down until next meal . I did breakfast and lunch and supper. When they are done eating and take off, get a string and pull it in front of where they are hiding . Food and play are the way to a cats heart. And your kittens are at the zoom zoom stage where they just zoom across the floor. This is the time for a box with holes cut in it. make the holes big enough that they can just dive in after each other. They will feel safe in the box and you can put the box in the middle of the living room making them part of the family while they play. Run and hide will pass as they get older and used to you so don't worry.Judy W

Be patient with them and don't force them to interact with you if they don't want to - that will just make them more scared of you. Let them come to you in their own time.

Hand feeding is a good way to try and gain their trust. Sit with some treats or food they particularly like but avoid making eye contact with them. Allow them to approach you but don't try to fuss them or take a lot of notice. If they come for the food let them take it but dont force any interaction with them. Hopefully, they will eventually become more confident.

There is some good advice here

They will become more tolerant to sounds & strange sights the more they are exposed to them. Kittens tend to love to hide. If they're fearful, it is a good idea to slowly introduce them to different sounds so that they get accustomed to them. Be patient, and make sure that there is nothing dangerous that they can get into. This will make it unnecessary for you to go and get them. Just let them come out on their own, when they're ready. That will cause them less stress. They should become less timid as they get older.judahsma

No. They are kittens and will do this. My cat used to hide all the time too, but she grew out of it and now comes out to play all the time. Cats are independent animals, they will do what they want, when they want, and how they want. Don't force them to be pet or played with, as this will most likely make them more scared.luckylillady

I think that you should give it some time. But everyday, I would sit calmly with a kitten and pet them in your arms/lap and talk nicely to them. They are probably just scared of their new environment. Try buying a cat bed or blanket and put it in a place that you are a lot (like a living room) so they can feel more at home.missqteeone
