Sometimes there is no cure for this. However, what I find works best is training them in the Leave It command. Use a toy or treat at first, and tell them to "leave it", using a hand in front of their face to signal it. If they ignore you, say "no", and take the thing away, then try again. Once they do it correctly, reward them, and when they do it every time you ask, keep enforcing it and it will eventually work for cats. You also may want to consult a professional if this does not work. Reiha B.

I'm eagerly awaiting an answer to this question too. I too have a confirmed cat murderer. I just find keeping the cats and dogs separate is the best thing, especially for the feline. Sadly I got this dog from the humane society. She had two fo my cats dead before I knew it. I almost euthanaized her as the shelter wouldn't take her back. singleworker1230

It's prey drive - instinct - and you can't train it away. Some dogs have very high prey drive. If he has killed a kitten already, he needs to be kept away from cats and all other small animals. It has nothing to do with aggression toward humans or other dogs - it's just pure instinct to hunt, chase and kill what the dog perceives as prey. No training on earth will guarantee he won't do it again. Bozema
