I have an orange tabby that I love to death who is going on 17 this July. Cats can live upwards around 20-21 years if they don’t suffer from any health problems. I have had two cats though that have died in their 13-15th year from kidney failure and hyper thyroid, which are quite common and deadly health problems for cats. Emily B

Congratulations on being a responsible and caring cat owner. I’ve known them to live for up to 25 years (indoor only cat) Make sure you keep feeding him a good diet and get him regular vet checkups and your friend could be with you for a good long while. andijxo

13 years on average. An indoor cat that is well cared for may live longer, up to 20 years. Cheeks

Cats have a healthy lifespan of around 12-20 years. Depending on the quality of life and whether they are indoor or outdoor cats, their lifespans can be greatly affected. Most outdoor cats have a shorter lifespan due to the fact that they come in contact with more viruses, have a rougher life, cars, dogs, etc. If you have an indoor cat, keep an eye on obesity for a healthier lifestyle. Inside cats usually live 14 years, outside cats less. Some breeds (tabby is just a color pattern, not a breed) last longer than that. The cat’s genetics and what kind of veterinary care he gets determine how old he will get. One of my friends had a cat that lived to 22 years, and he was just a normal barn cat. Linda C
