Pretty much depends on the cats. One trick to getting them used to each other is to put each cat in a separate room with food, water and a litter box. After a few hours, switch the cats. Once they get used to each other's scent they should get along. However, some cats just don't care for the company of strangers, and it may take a long time for them to adjust to a new feline in the house.

Well I for some reason thought it would be a good idea to get my 2 yr old cat a kitten to play with. He hated the kitten for a couple weeks but they now play pretty good together although I think my older cat just tolerates him rather than likes him.

some times never it depends on the cat also if there very protective of there territory they will always have issues and if there an older cat introduced to another cat that's adult is the worst . i have had a cat the was kitten together, they where separated for 15 years then at the age of 17 put back together .they never got along. one cat was dominating. and could not get along with the other cats because they where all adults.a young kitten introduced to an older cat might get along it might take a few months
