How to get my cats to stop fighting?

Kristen asked:

My 2 cats won’t stop fighting! It’s gotten to the point where my one cat has a bleeding scratch on her ear from the other cat! One cat has claws and the other doesnt, so the one cat has no way to defend herself. Any ideas on how to get them to stop fighting?

Be sure to clip the ones claws once a week or as needed, and when their fights get out of control spray them with a water bottle

UGHH , I hear you on this one…I recently had a foster cat come in to the house and she DOES not get along with the other cat. Same situation fighting, cat scratches etc.
The advantage I had is that they both had their claws, I was also lucky because one was recently adopted.
Here is what I did to help it along…
always seperate food bowls and water bowls
the rule of thumb for litter boxes is one per cat plus one
when we went out I had to confine one because I couldn’t risk not being there

One of 2 things will happen, either they will learn to tolerate each other.
Or it will continue and you may have to find an alternate living situation for one of them (advice from the vet)
    Best of luck

Cat fights are serious when fur starts flying and blood is being shed. i really feel for your cat who can’t defend her self. Can you get the other declawed? I found this website “allexperts.com” i have recieved wonderful advice for my 2 cats (who still don’t get along!) i still go to that website and ask questions. It takes about 2 days for them to respond, but they are very helpful. try it out and goodluck

    Clip the claws!!
Also, everytime it happens, spray them in the face with water. not much, just from a spray bottle. It’s not cruel and it doesn’t harm them. It will stop. I’ve done it :) Good luck

My cat fights with any cat in my neighborhood so we can’t have any cats. I just let my cay fight with them. He big enough to defend himself.

First, make sure they are fighting and not just playing roughly.

When the relationship between the cats breaks down to this extent you need to start over again and introduce them as though they have never met each other before. You have to do this slowly. This will tell you how you can do that

Usually some change in the environment triggers relationship breakdowns in cats.

Unfortunately there are some cats that really can’t get along with other cats and if that happens it is kindest to rehome one of the cats, otherwise you get a lot of stress-related behaviour problems like house soiling.

Clip their front paws. Or you could get this done at the vet. But it costs a small fortune. I should know I had it done to my cats.

That way keeping the back paws would be defening its’ selves but not hurting eachother.

And keep an eye on the two or them when they are together. But if you’re too cautious to or when you leave home keep them in seperate rooms.

Eventally they will learn to love eachother!
