How to keep stray cats out of my garden?

Goofoo asked:

There are a lot of stray cats in my area. I am going to be creating a garden for the first time and I am certain that at least one of the many stray cats in the neighborhood will enjoy making my garden a toilet.

How do I keep them out? Is a Remington the only answer?

Many people use moth balls, I hear. With an occasional cat problem, I spray Frabreeze. For some reason they will stay away for a day or so.

You can make “cages” for your plants out of chicken wire. Or even just a fence of it around the garden. I doubt they’ll bother jumping over just to use your garden as a litter box.
