Cats are lazy. Easier to dig in loose soil. I use pinecones in my potted plants and also sprinkle cheap (Dollar Store) cayanne pepper on the area. Plastic forks (tines up) pushed into the ground also make the area less favorable to cats.

The pound is always a good option for cats.

Maybe the ONLY good option for cats.

Scatter some moth balls around the edges of your garden. The smell will keep the cats away. You won’t have to worry about your cats accidentally eating them as the smell will keep them away. Reapply as necessary as watering/rain will slowly dissolve them. I use this procedure to keep deer away from my young trees and other critters, like skunks, out of my yard, and it really works great. Good luck to you.

    Some recommendations:

If they’re burying the poop, lay chicken wire over the top of the beds. If they can’t dig into the soil, they’re less likely to use it as a litter box.
