It sounds like a case of upper respiratory infection. the kitten probable came in contact with it at the shelter and he got it. it is possible for it to go away, but if it seems to get worse than I would take it to the vet, or a different vet. they can give you some antibiotics to help him get better. But if he seems to be getting better in a couple of days than i dont think you would need to take him to the vet. normally they recover from the cold soon, as long as no other animals in your home or that he is around have it. its just that the shelter environment isn't the best for young animals. which is why when you adopt one you are saving there lives, so thanks for adopting!!

yes, I would think that poor advice too. Sounds like the little guy might have an upper respitory infection. I would check with another vet. They may give it antibiotics. How old is it?

that would be an upper respiratory infection (aka a cold)
its possible it will go away but unlikely
he really should have antibios. to help his immune system along

A flu like this is very dangerous for such a small kitten without shots. Take it to another vet, usually they avoid giving antibiotics to so small kittens, but in some cases (when eyes and nose are runny and they sneeze), they do give them a syrup antibiotic. But they need to tell you the dosage.

Get some amoxicillan from your vet and give it to your kitten using an eye dropper...i'm pretty sure your kitten has a cold. My cat had a cold when we got him as a baby and this is what we did. It went away after a few weeks. He should be fine. Your vet may want to see him though i'm pretty sure it's a cold. Sounds just like mine.

Cats/kittens love warmth so be sure to provide a warm environment (no drafts, etc.) for it. Doesn't sound good about the nose/eyes but you say this kitty is active and eating which is of most importance. Hopefully this kitten's immune system will kick in and protect it from any complication before you get it innoculated.
It may be only allergies....

He probably just has a common flu or cold. Just wait it out a little. If it continues you need to talk to a different vet. The kitten may have allergies to something in the house.

Kitty has a cold. You should take him back to the vet so he will not get pneumonia from a secondary infection. Take your kitten to another vet since it has been a week already.
