Cats and Kittens

I have a cat and a dog, and both of them are inside animals. I want to get a doggie door so the dog can go in and out of the backyard, but I don’t want the cat to be able to get out and hop over the fence. He has his claws, but he’s never really been outside before. Is there any way I can keep him from getting out of the backyard?

I have an indoor cat, Max, who is almost four years old. I recently took up volunteering at my local animal shelter and I would like to be a foster parent to cats (maybe even dogs) in the shelter. Max is very VERY territorial and does not like any other animals (my cousin’s dog who we watch a lot, my friend’s cats who visit, etc.)

Is there any way to train him to be nicer? Will I never be able to foster other animals while I still have Max?

We don’t own any cats (or any other animals) so I don’t know why the local cats have started using a small patch of lawn right under my living room window as a bathroom. It smells terrible, I have tried the cat repellents sold in stores but it hasn’t helped to keep them away. Now that the summer heat has arived the smell is really awful. Anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of the odor and to permanently discourage the cats?
I have one rose bush and a jasmine vine, other than that it’s just grass.

I have a 1 1/2 year old pug who is very friendly with other animals, however she is sometimes a little TOO friendly. I recently brought home a 5-week-old kitten and I can’t get them to behave for the life of me. The kitten is fine walking around the house, but my dog feels the need to act like the kitten is her own personal toy, chasing after her, barking at her, nipping her. How can I make this stop, outside of yelling at her? Should I place her in a separate room each time until she learns that she won’t have this kitten to play with if she continues? It’s incredibly frustrating.

Most of you probably work all day and expect your indoor cats to be perfectly wonderful when you get home, well, that is not the case.

These are animals that are left indoors all day and get soooo bored.

Most of your complaints are because of this.

A lot of cats do many things in the house because they need to be outdoors. THEY ARE BORD.

Get a cage, or fenced area and get them out.

Sorry for all you apartment owners, but this is the reason for most of your complaints.

P.S. Some cats cannot live indoors.
There is a difference between complaining about things that are just natural for cats to do, and asking concerned cat questions as I have.

Both pets are very placid alone but when my dog comes up to the kitten in curiously, it is received with a very prompt hiss from the kitten. The kitten is about 9 weeks old and the dog is about 4 years old. The dog is harmless with anything and she just gets very curious around animals which can sometimes lead to a chase. Especially with our other cat who is starting to get used to the dog after 4 years.

Any tips for getting the kitten to not be scared of the dog?
