How do you get rid of stray cats around your house?

Is there any way aside from calling animal control to get rid of stray cats around the house? I wouldn’t normally care, but they keep getting into the garbage and recycling and starting fights with our cat at the window.
Like I said, I wouldn’t normally care, but they actually get at our windows at start fights with our cat at the screens. I could get the lids for the garbage, but that won’t help with the fighting problem, so we need they to leave the house alone completely…
