What can happen to kittens if they nurse from a dead mom cat?
Found 7 week old kittens in the desert with the mom cat being dead and I think the kittens nursed from her for at lease a day or so. They seem healthy but their poop smells weird but solid. Could it cause them to get a disease that is contagious to other animals?

It depends on what killed the mom. If the mom died of a disease, the kittens may have the disease. If they do have a disease, it will only be transferable to other cats. Most diseases are not transferable to other species. Please help these kittens. I rescued 5 kittens whose mom had been shot and they had nursed for at least two days (going by decay in the mom). They are fine today and are 1 year old and very healthy. I did get their shots taken care of though.

I dont think so.
If they were in the desert, that makes it reasonable that their poop was solid,k it was probly solid because they had no water in the desert. They probly drank the last body fluids from their mom, and yea. YOu get it…

Probably not but call the vet or the animal control to check to see what the mother cat died from. It was probably delivery but always best to check. Kittens at seven weeks should have solid poop but I would feed them cat milk not cow’s milk if you can’t afford cat milk by carnation or canned milk and mix it with warm water half and half and add some sugar to it. Good luck and man you are decent to help those kittens. Thank god for people like you out in this world.
