What do I do when my cat has accidentally received more than 1 flea treatment within a 30 day period?

Five days ago, I gave my cat a liquid flea treatment (the kind administered to the back of the neck). Today, while someone was cat-sitting for me, they informed me that they had also given my cat a flea treatment of the same kind. What should I do for my cat? I can’t reach a vet as it is after hours and all offices are closed. I can’t bathe the cat as she is deathly afraid of water and will attack. What can I do?

If your cat was going to have a reaction, she probably would have by now (neurological symptoms, vomiting, upset stomach). I am sure she will be fine, just don’t give her next treatment until 30 days from the day the other person gave her the flea treatment. Just remember to let any new sitters to know what medications she has been given and when next time. If you notice any unusual behavior, be sure and call your vet immediately. LYNN W

Call the poison control center. The ASPCA has a good one and you can find them on web, they do charge. Some states have them that are not as expensive; they should be on the web. Chad
