I can’t find anything that tells me exactly what a ferrell cat is. I believe I saw a picture of one and it looked just like a Tabby. Can someone answer these questions for me? Thanks

    It’s a wild cat, one that’s not domesticated. abagee_123

  2. Daria Says:

Its a wild cat that doesnt have a human family. They are usually spooked very easily and wont come near humans. Daria

A feral cat is essentially the same as a house cat. Ferals are regular, domestic cats that have either become lost or have been abandoned and they’ve reverted to a wild state. They’re still cats, but typically, if they’ve been in the wild for a long time or if they’re born there, they can’t be pets. They have learned to adapt to the outdoors and that’s how they live. Feral means wild. It is not a breed of cat and you will find many farm cats are feral, they scavange and fend for themselves. They are not tame and never likely to be. catwoman

  5. nursecracker Says:

“feral” is a term used for domestic creature which has been left to go wild….

these are cats who are dumped by stupid people and left to fend for themselves.. these cats might reproduce, so we end up with a lot of cats which are feral or wild, scared of people.

feral cats can look like any cat on earth.. there is no specific “look”. nursecracker

    Not ‘ferrell’.

‘Feral’. It means wild. Feral describes a domesticated animal (cat, dog, pig, etc…) that lives in the wild. If a cat runs away and has a litter of kittens, for instance, the kittens may grow up to be feral. Bruce J

Feral cats are just your regular cats. People frequently will “dump” a pregnant cat and she is forced to have her kittens outside “in the wild”. If the kitten are trapped before they are eight weeks old they can usually be tamed and taken into a normal human household.

Many people work diligently to feed these homeless cats every day - to trap them and give them basic shots and have them neutered.

The numbers are overwhelming and the population of homeless cats continues to grow in the US. Many are trapped and simply euthanized because shelters do not have the space to handle the numbers. old cat lady

  8. SCARLETT Says:

I THINK A FERRELL CAT IS MORE OR LESS A WILD CAT THAT JUST BREEDS HAS BABIES OR BREEDS AND MAKES BABIES…..THEY DO NOT LOOK A CERTAIN WAY, IT IS HOW THEY LIVE. SCARLETT

  9. SU Says:

I think you mean “feral.” A feral cat is a domestic cat that lives outside with no human ownership or companionship or routine contact with humans. Basically it’s a domestic cat that has reverted to the “wild” even though the “wild” is most likely a suburb or city. A feral cat colony is one that is composed of a group of domestic cats that have come together as a group and reside together in the wild. SU

  10. Sweet Gran Says:

As I understand it, a feral cat is descended from any non- domesticated feline. They are not born in the the home of anyone and just catch whatever wild food they can get…rodents, birds, etc.
    Hope this helps. Sweet Gran

    I think you mean ‘feral’.
Any animal that is described as ‘feral’ has been domesticated then allowed to go wild/untamed.
Cats are particularly adapted to going back to their wild nature. lenpol7

  12. rodeogalinor83 Says:

Just a fancy word for wild domestic cat. These cats have never had or are to afraid to have any contact with humans. They are usually strays. rodeogalinor83

  13. embee Says:

A FERAL cat is a cat who has lost contact with or never had contact with people.

It can be any type or breed. A feral cat is living a hard life.

Feral cats lack most social skills and are hard to ‘tame’, although they can come to tolerate people when given plenty of time. embee

  14. Squeek E Says:

“Feral cats are not some exotic breed you’re just learning about. They look just like your cats at home, only they are not tame; they are wild, or undomesticated. Feral cats are commonly referred to as strays or alley cats, although the terms are not truly interchangeable. “)

A feral cat can even look like a pure breed cat.

“Feral cats are the ‘wild’ offspring of domestic cats and are the result of pet owners’ abandonment or failure to spay and neuter their animals, leading to uncontrolled breeding. Feral cat ‘colonies’ can be found in urban, rural and even areas quite remote from human dwellings. They are elusive and do not trust humans. ”

Often these cats cannot be domesticated or at least not very successfully unless kittens are taken in at a very young age.

Perhaps this website explains it best: Squeek E

  15. Elaine M Says:

A feral is a cat born wild, to a wild mother or a stray mother.

A stray is a cat who was owned by humans but who was abandoned, was lost or somehow got seperated from humans and is now living on their own.

Strays can adapt back into living with humans, but ferals haven’t had that exposure and are usually VERY frightened of humans, even doing eye contact will make them run. It takes a long time to gain their confidence and trust. Elaine M
