When can i start feeding my kitten solids?
My kitten is about 5 or 6 weeks. I got her last night. We have been feeding her Whiskers kitten milk and beef baby food. She loves the baby food. But i was wondering when should I start feeding her solid kitten chow? What brand is the best?

It`s about time for you to start feeding your kitty, if it eats the baby food. I fed solid food to my Nemo, when he was 10 weeks. Thamain P

It really would be best for the kitten if she could be returned to her mother for another month as 5-6 weeks is way too young to be taken from mother and siblings.
If that is not possible, and you really should try, the kitten needs kitten formula and a high-quality wet food.
The right thing is KMR kitten formula and a wet food like Evo or Wellness. Give them to her mixed 50:50 and gradually reduce the amount of formula over a couple weeks. I would continue with the formula in a saucer for a month. Tapering off the amount and the frequency given.
The Whiskas stuff is not a complete formula and human baby food isn’t nutritionally complete for cats. Some baby foods actually contain ingredients harmfull to cats like onions and excess sodium. susan n

you can get kitten chow by Purina and put a little water or kitten milk over it to make it soft. she should have no problem eating solid hard kitten food at all. don’t feed her baby food it could be bad for her. Tiffany

She shouldn’t even be away from mom yet, so I wouldn’t feed her dry food until she’s at least 10 weeks or so. Personally, I wouldn’t feed dry food at all. Try finding a quality high protein, grain free wet food like Wellness Core or Innova EVO and stick with it for the duration. Here’s more information on cat nutrition that explains why in detail. rrm38

Feed her soft food now. When she’s around 6-7 weeks then you can start feeding solid food. Some good brands are Wellness, Eagle Pack, Blue Buffalo, Innova, and California Natural. ♥Animal♥person♥
