You should start giving it solid foods like the ones in jelly the fish in jelly etc...
Then slowly give it some hard foods mixed in
This should start at 8 weeks old really,Princess

they start on solid food when mom starts them on solid food. they can be separated from mom when mom separates herself from them.mom does everything for you, let her do it.

mom brings them to her food starting at about 4 weeks, they usually walk through the food until about 6 weeks. so put food and water down in saucers next to moms food.

mom gives up on them at between 8-12 weeks. when they eat sold food and mom chases them away from her, they are ready to go.Jr. is angry

Hiya, Aww cute, very sorry to hear about you losing 3 of the kittens!, You start to wean them at about 5 weeks old, they leave mum when they are fully weaned from about 8-12 weeks old. By this time they will have learned all they need to know from the mum, you should also socialise them all the time, so they are friendly for their new home! :)

You can start them on soft foods at three weeks, you know canned cat food with a lot of water added, they won't do well with it, but it can be started then. I have always read it's best to wait until a cat is 12 weeks old before "giving" them away, and the no-kill shelter says 8 weeks is safe so I think you can try 8 weeks is the kitty is eating fine you have no problems. Remember though, as soon as the kittens are eating at least some regular food, Mommy will stop cleaning up their poopies, so that's another thing to think about.Mick Jaguar

Solid food can be introduced at around 4 weeks but it depends on the kitten; they may still want to take milk from their mother for a while longer. Kittens should stay with their mother for at least 8 weeks and always until fully weaned.Maria

Everything possible should be done to keep kittens and mother together for at least eight weeks. During that time, they can be socialized to human contact, but they need the training their mother can provide.

You can start offering them kitten chow at the five week time. The mother should have kitten chow available for the extra calories.

Many adoptions are offered at 8-10 weeks, and some a bit longer.cat lover
