Why do so many people get kittens too young?

kittens
Kayla B asked:

It seems to me that many people don’t realize that cats shouldn’t leave their mother before 8 weeks bare minimum. Good cat breeders keep the kittens until they’re 12 weeks old. People seem to know this with dogs but completely ignore it with cats, snatching away cats from 2-7 weeks old all the time. It’s not good for the kitties and should be a last resort(orphaned kitten, etc.) I was just wondering why people get kittens this young instead of waiting until they are old enough to be weened. Any input?

there is no such thing as too Young.. my cat lucky was 1 week old when i found her in a puddle of water during a thunderstorm… i bottle fed her cat milk and she grew up really healthy.. i even had to breathe in her mouth to bring her back to life…… i treated her like a human baby…. she had a crib and toys and even little diapers up until she was 6 weeks……. yeah, i guess im crazy no one else would ever do that for an animal! i love lucky bubbles! LOL

If i were to have a mother kitten and cats, i would not be giving them away till they had their second or third set of shots… that is generally about three months… which is basically 12 or 14 weeks.

Many people dont know… they think that it is a cute idea to have something so small. then the cat grows up and has a behavioral issue and they are not happy with it. Ignorance is the answer for this one. Wanting to be the *mommy* of the kitten.

I spent ten years in shelters, talking to people and helping them find the right cat for their home.

By far and away it was the most inexperienced cat owners who wanted the youngest possible kitten to take home and they didn’t want them spayed or neutered either.

People feel that the younger the kitten the stronger bond they will form with you which is not true at all.

I adopted both of my cats at 7 weeks of age (at different times). Both lost their mothers when they were very young. One was raised by people at the local shelter, the other by our vet. I don’t recommend people taking kittens that are to young but there are extenuating circumstances in many instances where people are simply rescuing the kittens.

Beacause ignorant people don’t spay and neuter and figure kittens are so cute then they start moving an going to potty and getting into things so they get rid of them.

    Save a critter don’t litter!!!

We found my cat when he was 3 weeks old on the side of the road. We didnt really have the “option” but it was so cool to bottle feed him! He was so little and fluffy!
Now he is 6 years old and big and healthy .

Well I was assured my Izzy was 8 weeks old. Imagine my surprise when the vet told me he was closer 1 month! Some people just want to get rid of the kitties and don’t care how old they are when they give them away.
